This course is for staff of Australian government agencies who draft, or are likely to draft, instruments that are not tied to OPC. It is a full day course conducted at OPC's premises and presented by professional drafters. Course materials are provided.
At the end of this course, participants will understand the basic requirements for drafting instruments. It is hands-on, with opportunities for participants to draft instruments. The course focuses on legislative instruments, but it is also relevant for notifiable instruments and other non-legislative instruments such as appointments, authorisations and delegations.
The course covers the following topics:
Different types of instruments
Legislative authority to make instruments
How to structure an instrument
Technical drafting issues, such as naming conventions and amending forms
Appointments, delegations and authorisations
Services and assistance that OPC can provide
Cost
The course costs $900 per individual (GST not applicable). Morning and afternoon tea is provided.
Eligibility
Please note that only staff of Australian government agencies are eligible to attend these courses.
Completion of the Legislation Process Course and Legislative Design Course before attending this course is recommended, as the content covered by these courses will be assumed knowledge.
