This is a full day course conducted at OPC's premises and presented by experienced drafters. Course materials are provided.

It builds on the Instruments Drafting Course 1 and is designed to equip agencies who choose to draft legislative instruments in-house with the necessary skills to ensure the instruments are effective, valid and clear. It is hands-on, with opportunities for participants to draft their own instruments.

Completion of the following courses before attending this course is strongly recommended:

  • Legislation Process Course
  • Legislative Design Course
  • Instruments Drafting Course 1

The course costs $900 per individual (GST not applicable). Morning and afternoon tea is provided where the course is delivered in-person.

The course covers the following topics:

  • Foundational matters, including the Constitution and Acts of general application
  • Working within the enabling legislation
  • Invalid abdication of legislative authority
  • Guidance on drafting provisions
  • Services and assistance that OPC can provide
